Lorry Crane Safety System

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) first engaged SLA in 2016 on the implementation of an audio warning system on lorry cranes, aimed to prevent collisions involving such over-height vehicles with overhead road structures. In Year 2020, LTA partnered Wong Fong Engineering to develop a new technology that incorporate a system to determine the height of the crane boom and only allow the vehicle to move if the crane boom is adequately stowed.

The objective is to further mitigate the risk of collisions by over-height lorry cranes and enhance safety for road users as well as lorry crane operators. The technology also helps remove externalities posed to lorry crane owners in the event of a collision with overhead road structures. SLA facilitated a session with several members on 27 October 2020 to acquaint and participate in a trial of this technology.
